Bright + Soulful Master Bath

Quietly Deco

Even if your family is grown, and your home is quieter than in past years, you still need a sanctuary. A place you can restore and recharge. So you’re ready when those precious grandbabies come charging through your door!

My lovely clients have lived in their home for close to 25 years. That’s a lot of memories, but it was time to show their home some love. They wanted to make it work better for them now and also update some key areas with an eye for a future sale.

Bright and white were their color requests. “Make it feel like a luxurious spa retreat” were their exact words. This is a perfect design choice for attracting future buyers, and it will also give them a timeless master bathroom to enjoy until they are ready to sell.

But…I did add a little twist to their vision. A subtle colorful Art Deco twist. This is an elegant home in a beautiful neighborhood, so leveling up the design was an exciting prospect.

We took a few design "risks” in this space. Mixing metals and tile, installing ultra-modern faucets, lining the skylight in mirrored beveled tiles, hanging large-scale art, and those quirky-but-adorable bird towel hooks. It’s a hodgepodge list for sure. But when it all comes together, there is magic in the mix.

There isn’t a lot of color in this space, but it still comes across as rich and warm, even though the backdrop is white and bright. That’s the amazing power of color.

Including just a few items that quietly whisper Deco without screaming it from the rooftops, lets us create an interesting bathroom story that isn’t at all thematic.

Did they need a little convincing that adding color and a subtle nod to glamorous Art Deco style would take their elegant white bathroom from beautiful to showstopping? Yup.

Are they glad they took the chance and stepped out of their comfort zone just a bit? Oh boy, are they ever.

I’m not sure they will ever sell now!
