A Functional Sanctuary for Growing Personalities
This was a fun project! My clients promised their son that they would give him a “cool dude’s” bedroom for his 9th birthday. He no longer wanted the sweet jungle theme they had lovingly set up months before he was born. Imagine that, a 9-year-old with an opinion!
So, rather than taking direction from the adults of the house, the coolest member of the family and I worked together (with Mom giving her blessing in the background) to create his epic gaming pad. This little guy knew what he wanted. Blue and red. Graphic street graffiti. Wolves. Biking guys. And of course lots of space for lounging and gaming. That’s a lot to cram in a small space!
And I’m pretty sure we hit all of the requirements, plus I was able to add in some study space and much-needed custom storage as a Mom-requested bonus.
I loved the challenge of balancing the bold colors with more neutral items to make sure the room was energized, but could still be a place of calm and rest at the end of a long day of learning and playing.
Would I work under the direction of a 9-year-old again? ABSOLUTELY! I love to see little ones get excited and inspired-about anything. And who else is going to teach me how to “floss” like a pro? That’s the dance, BTW. ;)
